Etude 5- Major And Minor Triad Pairs Extracted From The Diminished Scale (harmonic substitution over V7 chords)

In this jazz etude I use the three altered diminished scales to form triad pairs. Each pair is formed as follows: a minor triad followed by a major triad a tritone away (e.g., C- and F# Major). By organizing the notes of the diminished scale in this way, you give yourself a huge amount of color and tension possibilities over Dominant chords without reverting to just running the diminished scale in a purely linear fashion.  After introducing the scale, I place all the triad pairs back to back in one (5 bar) phrase. Next, I make a 4 bar phrase out of each triad pair extracted from the scale. Some of these patterns go into the altissimo register of the saxophone. As always, adjust and transpose according to your instrument and/or ability. This concept is explored in a thorough and methodical way in my book, Diminished Scale Diatonic Triad Pairs.
